But you find yourself wondering – with this few followers, what’s the point?  Is anyone even reading your Tweets?

Let’s face it – when building your company’s presence on Twitter, the number of followers is key.  If no one is receiving your company’s Tweets, there really isn’t much of a point in sending them, is there?

So you might be asking yourself, “how do I get more followers on Twitter?”

  •        Fulfill your followers’ needs.
  •        Solve a problem

Businesses that fulfill needs and solve problems are businesses that grow!  The same holds true in social media, including Twitter.  Provide Tweeted content that fulfills needs and solves problems, and people will want to share with others.  When your valuable content is shared, your number of followers will naturally grow as more people seek out the source of the content.

#3 – How Many Tweets Are Enough?

How many Tweets are enough is specific to each business.  There are analysis tools out there that can help you look at your Tweets and growth in followers and figure out what’s working best for you.  If the thought of learning yet another system is too much, consider hiring a professional Twitter consultant help you determine what specific strategies will best help your business answer the question, “how do I get  more followers on Twitter?”

  3. Engagement is key. It is easy to throw a lot of information out there but if we aren't talking to them what's the point right?

  5. Hi Edmund,
Providing people with quality content that appeals to them is the best way to go. It's really going to boil down to the relationship we build with them that will help us grow our Twitter following. The total amount of tweets that you do per day is not important compared to how much weight and value it provides them.

    • I agree Simmeon, QUALITY of content will always outweigh quantity. However, there is some importance to the idea of tweeting during different times in the day. It’s kinda like news on a news station. Different people tune in at different times =)

  7. Thanks for sharing your "secrets" as I call it about Twitter.  It takes time to see the followers come but it's a process.  I would rather have the quality vs. the quantity Edmund.

Great advice for friends & family with real estate, kickstarter and beginning car lot .. will pass along .. but i am curious how to best apply for mere social media enthusiasts like myself. Considering your first point, my contribution seems mostly encouragement and retweets, whereas in my quest to learn i am currently following a very diverse group of fairly one way communicators (Bloggers, Journalists, Scientists, Authors, App providers, Librarians, TV stations..) I am increasingly active, but wonder how long it might take individuals without a definitive service, especially not the rampant random #teamfollowback game. Again, i have no argument with the concepts, just seems the average non-biz person may find it harder to reach Twitter's follow threshold, and would love to learn if there are any futher considerations to address this? Thanks for your time, StoneyTheDreamer

To address your question about how a non-biz person would approach Twitter, it would be very much the same in that you would still be marketing your brand (YOU!). Social Media is about interacting with others, networking, and building friendships. It is no different than how you would interact with somebody in person. Whereas encouragement and retweets are nice, it is also important to engage in conversation with others. This is one of the ways that a non-biz person can stand out..by interaction. At the end of the day, each person has a BRAND or something that makes them unique from others, regardless of whether they are a biz owner or not.
